I was told they don't. The reason being , anti depressants release serotonin into the body.
Serotonin is produced from the gut. Alcohol completely stops the production of serotonin,
Hence totally stops anti depressants from working.

Maybe doctors think alcohol is a depressant. So give the client anti depressants. It does not work!!!

I found once I stopped taking anti depressants, against my doctors wishes, I started to get better very quickly. I don't think they are all they are cracked up to be. I also feel doctors hand them out like smarties. It's an easy way out for a doctor, especially if you have a drink problem. Alcohol is a depressant, subscribe anti depressants. It does not work as alcohol stops anti depressants from working. Crazy!!!

A friend of mine after 4 years on anti depressants, just felt he had had enough, and just stopped. I think when the time is right, you will know. No one knows your body like you do.

A friend of mine was on anti depressants for years and, she was on a high dose. Like everything she dose, it's normally to excess. She said to me she knew when she was ready to come off them. I asked how she knew, and she just said you know when the time is right. She went to see her doctor, and he helped her stop by reducing her dose. She has now been off them for just over a year. I think I would suggest to anyone who wishes to stop their anti depressants, is to seek medical help first. Like all medicines you may have been taking for a long time, or a high does, if you want to stop, you should reduce the dose. Speak to your doctor or ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
