Great news - A ban on legal highs

Postby Andy284 » Thu May 26, 2016 12:10 am

A blanket ban on so-called legal highs has come into force in the UK today.
Laws criminalising the production, distribution, sale and supply of what are otherwise known as new psychoactive substances began at midnight.
The chemicals, sold under names such as spice and black mamba, are designed to give users the same effect as drugs such as cannabis and cocaine.
Last year legal highs were linked to more than 100 deaths in the UK and a rise in violent assaults in prison.
Offenders who break the new laws will face up to seven years in prison under the Psychoactive Substances Act.
Police will also be able to shut down "headshops" - stores which sells drug paraphernalia - and online dealers in the UK.
'Intense scrutiny'
They will have powers to seize and destroy psychoactive substances, as well as carry out searches of people, premises and vehicles.
If a person is found to be in possession of a psychoactive substance in prison, they could now face having up to two years added to their sentence.
The legislation has come under intense scrutiny since it was first proposed by the government last year.
It had been widely expected that the measures would be rolled out in April but the start date was pushed back.

Hey Andy
Hopefully the ban on legal highs will cut back on the amount of spice in prisons,I doubt it but we can only hope. I got out 7 months ago after serving 10 years of a life sentence and spice is destroying prisoners lives. Everyone is in debt over it it leads to violence and people getting robbed and some prisoners end up serving years longer coz they have an indefinite sentence and get caught being a spice addict. Prisoners these days have no morals and spice rules their life

Hi Andy

Thanks for posting such useful information on legal highs. I am currently running a piece of research at the University of Sussex investigating some of the consequences of using synthetic marijuana, like Spice and Black Mamba as mentioned by Andy above. If you have ever used synthetic marijuana or would simply be interested in contributing to this research, we would more than welcome any participation. Its a completely anonymous questionnaire that takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes, and it can be accessed from the following link: SERVEY NOW FINISHED . There is the option of £25 cash draw for those that are interested.
If you know anyone else who you feel may be interested in taking part please feel free to invite them to do so.

If you have any questions regarding this research please email me at:

All the best
